Project Overview

The Silver Skagit Valley Road Reconstruction was an extensive infrastructure restoration project responding to severe storm damage sustained in 2021. Ballina was tasked with reconstructing multiple severely washed-out roadway sections, installing numerous large-scale culverts, and carrying out comprehensive corridor-wide repairs.

The project required significant coordination, as crews navigated remote terrain, sensitive environmental conditions, and logistical complexities. Through strategic planning and close collaboration with engineers, including Binnie and Stantec, and local stakeholders, including Chawathil First Nation, Ballina successfully restored critical infrastructure to reconnect communities and ensure long-term resilience against future environmental impacts.

  • Reconstruction of approximately 150 metres of severely damaged roadway sections
  • Installation of five concrete box culverts and four large-diameter CSP culverts
  • Coordinated restoration efforts alongside Chawathil First Nation and leading engineering firms
  • Complex logistics management in environmentally sensitive and remote terrain

“Rebuilding the Silver Skagit Valley Road was more than just infrastructure restoration. For us, it was about reconnecting communities and building resilience for future generations. Our team’s adaptability, logistical expertise, and close collaboration with local stakeholders were critical to the project's success.”
